According to the UK Government, the current housing need will increase the demand for MMC across the country, particularly in London, South East and East of England.

To better understand what Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) represent currently in the UK Market, we will share some key figures:

  • In 2020, 8% of homes built in the UK were constructed using MMC

  • Timber costs increased by up to 50% in the first half of 2021

  • 70% of houses in Scotland are built in timber frame

  • There was a 20% rise in materials costs in 2020/2021

  • 80%of timber used in the UK is currently imported (Timber Trade Federation)

  • Price of structural steel as risen 97% since 2020.

  • 340,000 new homes need to be constructed each year until 2031 to meet the current demand.

  • If, per year, 75,000 modular homes are constructed, it could create up to 50,000 new jobs.
