University Hospital - Milton Keynes
Catfoss were contracted by the NHS Foundation Trust to design and build a new main entrance area for Milton Keynes University Hospital.
In building a new main entrance facility, the key challenge here for Catfoss would be to keep disruption to a minimum. As the site itself is a working hospital, it would be essential access to all departments be maintained throughout the construction process.
Offsite modular construction would help keep onsite disruption to a minimum. Catfoss designed and fabricated the modules in a way they could be successfully transported onsite. This smart application of modular design and construction would be ideal for meeting the challenges of this particular build and enable the whole project to be completed with just nine weeks onsite.
The work carried out onsite was broken down into three key stages. A temporary pedestrian diversion allowed access to the hospital while groundwork elements were completed. Once the foundations were in place, the modules were delivered at a weekend to minimise disruption. Finally, at the same time as the internal fit-out, external work was carried out – including the reinstatement of drop-off access, pathways and landscaping.

The new facility would cover an area of over 990 sqm and include a new front entrance with large welcoming front desk, new patient and visitor welfare facilities, space for breakout seating and enhanced café options and bespoke retail units: Costa Coffee, Subway & Little Fresh.
